Energy In Ecosystems

Come explore the links in a food chain, while learning about the flow of energy from the sun to the top predators in New England’s forests. Your students will gain hands on experience designing and building a stable ecosystem, then watch how diversity prevents disaster. They will be able to describe why having a balance of consumers and producers benefits all species, and even have a chance to meet a live scavenger!

Your Day at VINS: Your field trip includes a 80 minute guided program including an introduction to the topic of Animal Adaptations, an active outdoor game, in depth investigation and a chance for students to reflect upon what they learned. In addition to your guided lesson you will have the opportunity to experience a live bird presentation, visit our trails and exhibits, and enjoy lunch on our grounds.
Personalize your field trip! Chose a specific native creature for an in-depth investigation or select multiple animals for a study in similarities and differences. Depending on the selected topics, live animal encounters and/or teaching artifacts may also be available with this field trip experience.

Every instructor works with a certified teacher in NH and VT to ensure their content and methods align with the Next Generation Science Standards and the best practices for outdoor education. All instructors are First Aid and CPR certified.
