Animals in Winter
Delve into the amazing winter adaptations of the creatures of Vermont with our animal adaptations field trip. VINS’ educators will guide students through exciting, hands-on, inquiry based activities that explore how each animal is uniquely adapted to its ecosystem during the winter months. Students will not only discover for themselves incredible facts about animal adaptations but will also gain a deeper understanding of how ecosystems have literally shaped each animal.
Aligned Standards: K-LS1-1, K-ESS2-2, K-ESS3-1, 1-LS1-1, 1-LS3-1, 3-LS1-1, 3-LS4-3, 3-LS4-4
Your Day at VINS: Your field trip includes a 80 minute guided program including an introduction to the topic of Animal Adaptations, an active outdoor game, in depth investigation and a chance for students to reflect upon what they learned. In addition to your guided lesson you will have the opportunity to experience a live bird presentation, visit our trails and exhibits, and enjoy lunch on our grounds.
Personalize your field trip! Chose a specific native creature for an in-depth investigation or select multiple animals for a study in similarities and differences. Depending on the selected topics, live animal encounters and/or teaching artifacts may also be available with this field trip experience.
