A Sense of Direction
Have you ever been lost, your phone did not have a signal and wished you could use a map and compass to help find your way home? In this field trip, students will be taught the basics of orienteering. VINS educators will teach students how to use a compass and engage them in an activity that takes them on a scavenger hunt around VINS using their newly honed skills! Students will take a journey which allows them to explore the winter habitat of Vermont life.
Aligned Standards: 1-LS1-2
Your Day at VINS: Your field trip includes a 80 minute guided program including an introduction to the topic of orienteering, an active outdoor game, in depth investigation and a chance for students to reflect upon what they learned. In addition to your guided lesson you will have the opportunity to experience an animal encounter, visit our trails and exhibits, and enjoy lunch on our grounds.
